Biography
Fausto Ferreira is a Leading Researcher and Project Leader at LABUST, FER, University of Zagreb. He holds a MSc in Electrotechnical and Computer Engineering (Instituto Superior Técnico, Portugal) and a PhD in Electronic Engineering, Information Technology, Robotics and Telecommunication (University of Genoa, Italy). He also earned a BSc in Political Science (University of Pisa, Italy) in 2018 with a thesis on regulatory and liability issues of Autonomous Surface Vehicles. He has been working in underwater robotics and computer vision since late 2008 first at the National Research Council of Italy (CNR) and from mid-2014 to October 2020 at NATO STO Centre for Maritime Research and Experimentation (CMRE). During his PhD, he was the PI of a Visiting Scientist Grant from Office of Naval Research Global (ONRG) at University of Miami. He has joined LABUST in October 2020 as a Leading Researcher and Project Leader. He has been the co-PI and deputy technical director of 7 robotic competitions. He has been involved in 9 EU Projects (FP6, FP7, H2020, INTERREG) and 2 ONRG projects. He holds over 40 peer-reviewed publications. His research interests include computer vision, marine robotics and educational robotics. He is the Vice-President for Workshops & Symposia of the IEEE Oceanic Engineering Society (OES), a member of the IEEE OES Autonomous Marine Systems (AMS) Technical Committee and an IEEE Senior Member.
